The Cratur - Irish Poitín is an Exploration Series in praise of the Small Pot Distillers who made The Cratur.

Batch 2 is in remembrance of the Poitín Makers who defied the Customs men, mostly notable Jasper Barry in the parish of Mevagh and the Carrigart area.

Jasper Barry joined the Revenue Police within the RIC in 1831, with his last testimony on Donegal Poitín in 1853, stating that of the 1100 RIC men in Donegal (many of whom were ex-british army men) 240 were tasked with eliminating Donegal Poitín.

The revenue police were founded in 1819 with the sole purpose of putting an end to Poitín making, they were required to go out on excursions four times a week between midnight and six a.m, they were as busy in 1853 as when the force was founded.

By 1853, Jasper Barry was the head Revenue Police Inspector for the Carrigart detachment. 130 Poitín makers were recorded in the Parish in 1819, although this number may have waxed and waned over the period, the revenue force were still needed by 1853.

And the Poitín making continued on.

The Cratur - Batch 2 Mash bill was chosen by the Friends of Irish whiskey group via an online Poll, this mash bill is an exploration into new flavours, a mash bill profile totally unknown, a mix of grains including

44% Malt Barley, 30% Oat, 20% Maize, 6% Spelt

After an extra long mash process, the wort was fermented for one week and then slowly double distilled.
